INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2009/10

Integrated Development Plan (IDP) is a 5 year strategic Plan of a municipality. All municipalities are required by the MSA 32, 2000 to develop the IDP and review it annually. Integrated Development Planning is a process through which municipalities prepare a strategic development plan through an intense consultative process with its stakeholders. It informs all planning, budgeting, management and decision making process.

INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN - 2008/2012

The most overwhelming challenge facing municipalities, since the dawn of developmental local government, is the provision of basic service delivery. The democratic process unlocked urbanization at a scale never before experienced in the country. Whilst on the one hand it challenged the sustainability of "homeland" and other forms of marginalized communities, it did not however, spare the unfolding process from massive service backlogs.

In analyzing Municipal service backlogs, the analysis rests mainly on four critical issues, namely;
  • Service levels and backlogs
  • Total number of household
  • Household incomes
  • Location of marginalized communities (Spatial analysis)

2007 - 2012 IDP REVIEW

Municipality is situated South-East of the Waterberg District Municipality. It shares borders with Bela-Bela to the south, Mookgopong to the North, and Thabazimbi to south-West, Lephalale to the West and Mogalakwena to the North-west. The Municipality is at the centre of the District Municipality and hence the administrative capital of the Waterberg District Municipality.

  • Municipal Demarcation Board number: NP 365.
  • Municipal area: 5543.5 Km².
  • Modimolle is the administrative capital of the Waterberg region and consist of three settlements viz, Modimolle/Phagameng, Mabatlane and Mabaleng the remainder of the area is predominantly farming areas and portion of the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve.
  • Modimolle Municipality is 155 Km south-west of Polokwane the Provincial capital and the Gateway international airport, 30Km from the world acclaimed Nylsvley with Ramsar status and 149 Km from Lephalale near Botswana.
  • Modimolle has hot summers and mild winters which makes it an all year tourist destination.
  • Modimolle town is growing as a commercial centre and is renowned for its export quality grapes and other fruits such as melons and peaches.
